One Hospital, Five Women, the Birth of a Nation

Welcome to our exhibition and journey with us through the lives of our medical women during 1916. We are honoured to introduce you to five brave women who supported the women and newborn babies of Dublin during a time of turmoil and uncertainty. Some of our women may be known to you but others less so. All have direct connections with the Rotunda Hospital through their training or medical practice.

Read also about our connections with the GPO during Easter Week and Rotunda District Services giving you the opportunity to understand Dublin at this historic period of Irish history. Last but not least our connection with Michaelangelo Caravaggio’s The Taking of Christ (1602) and its unique connection with 1916 and the Rotunda Gardens.
